The Moment of Truth

You all know the feeling... the gut-wrenching, stomach curtling, brain-straining pressure you get before the start of a major soccer game, a talk in Sunday School, the opening of a major business, so on and so forth... Well, we're at are next gut-wrenching moment of truth in our life. Let me explain first: we live in a town of 5,500 people. There's ONE classifed/auction/garage sale paper circulated to our city and the surrounding area. It is the only way for a person to sell there stuff, advertise their business, post hiring ads, etc.

Now, most of you know that we were working on a national website directory set to launch early April; but after a lot of research, we found that the major players, (google, yellow pages, botw.org) were starting to focus solely on local directories. We had neither the means nor the time to develop such a vast database, so we turned all of our focus, efforts and money into our own city.

We joined the Chamber of Commerce in order to get access to certain information and photos of Orange City. Then we went to work... Once we were finished with the site, we started contacting businesses around the area to start advertising. Mostly so when it was time to launch the site, it wouldn't be empty. (During this time, we actually received an offer to build a site for another company). Once we were satisfied with the collection of businesses added, we put 300 flyers in the mailboxes of all faculty and staff at the college. The last step was to meet with the ONE paper in town that this would essentially take all of the business from. The owner was actuall impressed and talks of partnership even came up during the meeting. And after one more huge dip in our pocket book, we took out a full-page ad with 4 words:

http://www.orangecitystuff.com/

...it's finally arrived

After the ad has been in homes for a few days, we're going door-to-door to all of the businesses to once again, SELL. The ad comes out tomorrow, 'the ball has starting moving' so now we just sit and wait. This is one of those gut-wrenching moments of truth we are just dying to know the end result. Wish us luck!
